McGill University

I would like to congratulate the young leaders who are part of this year’s Sauvé Scholars Program, and extend a warm welcome to them on behalf of the McGill community. I feel a special link to the Sauvé Program as we started life together at McGill in 2003 – I as the new Principal and Vice-Chancellor, and the Program in its first year with the extraordinary “Dynamic Dozen.” Along with all my McGill colleagues, I have taken pride in each remarkable group of young leaders gathered to grow together in the ambiance of this unique Program, guided by the vision of the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé. I wish you much joy and success throughout your year at Jeanne Sauvé House and McGill, and look forward to your achievements as agents of change in the years to come.
                                                         - Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor

McGill University, the academic home of the Sauvé Scholars Program, is one of Canada's best-known institutions of higher learning and one of the country's leading research-intensive universities. Students from about 160 countries make the student body the most internationally diverse of any medical-doctoral university in Canada.
Founded in 1821, McGill has grown from a small college to a bustling university with two campuses, 11 faculties, some 300 programs of study, and more than 34,000 students.

Through a formal Memorandum of Understanding with McGill University, Sauvé Scholars are considered “Graduate Research Trainees” and have access to courses (but not for credit) and Graduate School facilities, campus libraries, classrooms and facilities.

One of the most enriching aspects of the Scholars Program is the pairing of each Scholar with a leading McGill academic in the Scholar’s field of investigation who serves as the Scholar’s Academic Mentor throughout the year.

“Leaders must dream of changing the world.

They must have an inspired vision of the changes they want to make and be prepared to consecrate all
their energy to that purpose. A capacity to communicate their objectives is indispensable to sustain
the enthusiasm of their collaborators and their perseverance in action.”
— The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Opening Speech to the National Conference for Young Leaders, June 2-8, 1991
