Great Grants - Sauvé Foundation featured by Philanthropic Foundations Canada

-

This May, the Sauvé Scholars Program was honoured to be featured by the Philanthropic Foundations Canada in their 'Great Grants' series. The article describes how the Sauvé Foundation developed and refined the its Scholars Program, and features just a few of our 114 remarkable alumni.

While the Foundation’s mandate remains consistent with Mme Jeanne Sauvé's vision and values, the way that mandate is realized has changed: biannual weeklong international conferences engaging several hundred youth delegatesfrom around the world in the 1990s were superseded in 2003 by an intensive investment in just 12-14 young leaders through a nine-month residential leadership program. The Program itself ‘stays young’ by adapting to ever-changing social, political and ecological landscapes, as well as by refining its Program to incorporate lessons learned each year.

“Leaders must dream of changing the world.

They must have an inspired vision of the changes they want to make and be prepared to consecrate all
their energy to that purpose. A capacity to communicate their objectives is indispensable to sustain
the enthusiasm of their collaborators and their perseverance in action.”
— The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Opening Speech to the National Conference for Young Leaders, June 2-8, 1991
