Len Blum visits Sauvé Scholars

By Marie-Marguerite Sabongui (Sauvé Scholar 2008-2009)

We welcomed musician-turned successful screen-writer-turned yoga instructor Mr. Len Blum into our kitchen last Monday. In our informal discussion, Mr. Blum emphasized the importance of telling a personal story in whatever you do- whether delivering a speech, writing a script or pitching a project. When asked what makes him tick Mr. Blum answered without skipping a beat, "friendship". For him, "playing well with other children" - or a real human connection to others - is what has brought him success in his career, motivation for screenplays, and fulfillment in life. It was inspiring for me, as someone who works in the industry, to find someone who insists on bringing heart into the business.

“Leaders must dream of changing the world.

They must have an inspired vision of the changes they want to make and be prepared to consecrate all
their energy to that purpose. A capacity to communicate their objectives is indispensable to sustain
the enthusiasm of their collaborators and their perseverance in action.”
— The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé, Opening Speech to the National Conference for Young Leaders, June 2-8, 1991
